Meevi Choi is a Hong Kong based artist zealous in “painting the religious belief of herself with a view to offset the reality and fantasy”. She moved to Lamma island since 2020 as she wishes to step closer to ecology while embracing nature at the same time. Her creations are mostly delineating the universe, humans and portraits. She is drawn to the process of her painting since it helps discover the spiritual connection, Ying-yang and mindfulness.
Besides just expressing emotions, Meevi expresses her inner feelings through distortion to reflect the truth and various aspects of thinking in reality while creating. She describes her progress of creation as a journey of introspection with no necessity to have a perfect clarification. She likes to make imperfect images which represent reality in a better way.
Meevi is enthralled by the feeling of hand-painted stuff. She always enjoys looking back to the first draft of the painting, giving a new impression of herself at the moment and getting back to painting for layering plenty of time with new aspects of thinking. The painting usually turns out becoming intricately structured or just simplified.
